CVA21 DAF Cavatak™ (CVA21) requires both ICAM-1 and DAF receptors to bind to the surface of cancer cells and infect them. Viralytics researchers have identified a variant of CVA21 that is able to bind to cancer cells using only the DAF receptor. This ‘bioselected’ variant is naturally occurring, and not genetically modified. The advantage of the DAF variant is that is has the potential to target a greater range of human cancers, as it will infect cancers that have DAF receptors, and does not require the presence of an ICAM-1 receptor.
